AIDS Information Centre (AIC) is one of the CSOs implementing the USAID Defeat TB Project.According to AIC community TB control registry, Kisenyi slum had the biggest TB hotspots in Central division. Between January-April 2019, out of 60 TB cases identified through contact investigation and community outreaches, 30 cases came from Kisenyi slum. Kakajjo, Kasaato and Muzaana zones contributed 40% of the notified TB cases. This prompted an approach that intensively reached TB hotspots through a special initiative codenamed ‘Community Rise Against TB’. AIC established a partnership with Integrated Community Health Initiative Organization (ICHIO) – an initiative founded by students of Makerere University School of Public Health in 2014. 39 students (volunteers) were engaged and trained in the basics of TB control at community level. Kakajjo zone was purposively selected as a pilot zone and Local Council Authority engaged.
